“Adoption Order” the final document to become legal parents

ree

For every prospective adoptive parent (PAP), the journey of adoption can be long and tedious filled with anxiety and expenses.  This ordeal comes to an when they receive the adoption order – a final document.

In the earlier JJ Act (2015), it was stated that the district judge would sign the adoption order but it was believed that it is taking too long to get the adoption order from district judge so that the act was amended in 2021.

In the amended act, the responsibility of signing the adoption order is given to the district magistrate (district collector).  Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) submits all the relevant documents to District Child Protection Unit (Unit) to review and submit the file for the magistrate to sign within two months from the day district magistrate receives the documents.  District magistrate may choose to interact with the PAPs through a personal appearance or through video call.

Consequently, Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) had issued regulations factoring all the changes, in 2022.
